The Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z lens can be ordered now for $3,000 and will start shipping next month. Canon Offers L Lens Alternatives with New EF 400mm f/4, EF 24-105mm and EF-S 24mm @marc Sound siliy to buy 'old' lens for modern bodies, but the fact is for sub 30MP cameras like R8, using cheap EF L less is not a bad combo. For R8, I keep recommend non-video shooters grab the EF 24-70L f4 instead of the RF24-105. That 'old' lens is sharper, has IS, has macro(0.2m close up focus) and cheap. My Canon 100mm EF w the ring is still hands down my favorite go to. Walk around 24-105 rf is way better than the one it replaces and demonstrably better. There's also a RF 14-35mm f/4 that Good Excellent optical performance at every focal length and distance. I wasn't able to make an unsharp shot. Excellent Image Stabilization: I got four real stops of improvement at 105mm. Unusually accurate, fast and consistent autofocus. Bad Cramped zoom ring, especially at the wide end. Lots of distortion (easily fixed with DxO) The 24~105 f4 is a good lens. The 24-70 f2.8 costs more. In the end, its a higher performing lens with the ability to adapt itself to more shooting situations. Constant f2.8 through its entire range vs. variable on the RF24~105. There are enough reviews of both out there with the consensus clearly in favor of the 24-70. A used EF 24-105 f/4 costs about the same as the rf 24-105mm f4-7.1. My gut feeling is to go for the EF, but what do you think? I was originally using the RF 24-105 kit for over a year before recently getting EF 24-105. I can say that I think the kit really does work well for a kit lens, and if you went that route you would still be pretty happy. xlCKh. 24-105mm f/4: Lens Construction Weight 3.3 in. x 4.2 in., 23.6 oz. / 83.5mm x 107mm, 670g (lens only) Warranty Info Canon EF Lenses Limited Warranty Looking at the specs and measurements, the Canon RF 24-240mm F4-6.3 IS USM Lens vs. Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM Lens comparison shows the huge size and weight differences with the EF lens weighing more than twice as much as the RF lens. Being a professional-grade L-series lens, the 28-300 is expected to have stronger build quality. I might consider between Sony FE 24-105G and Tamron FE 28-75 for native mount and lighter lens for traveling compared to EF 24-70L/2.8 II that weight/size similarly with adapter as FE 24-70 GM, but I don't expect either one can compete to EF 24-70L/2.8 II in optical performance. @marc Sound siliy to buy 'old' lens for modern bodies, but the fact is for sub 30MP cameras like R8, using cheap EF L less is not a bad combo. I am very surprised that no one told you there is no place for a tripod ring on the lens. With the control ring, focus ring, zoom ring along with the 5 switches there is NO room for a tripod mount. While the RF 70-200 f4 is 12mm longer it is also 5 grams less weight then the RF 24-105 f4.
